Applications now open for 2019 Cedric Walker Development Grants

by Steve Underwood

The NSAF has opened the application period for the 2019 Cedric Walker Development Grants and will accept applications from now through September 30, 2019.

The NSAF launced its Development Grants in 2010, intended to help track and field teams and clubs defray expenses, purchase equipment, and uniforms, enable coaches education, and much more.  The NSAF typically disperses 12-18 of these grants each year to teams and clubs around the country and the funds may be used for any reasonable purpose pertaining to the recipient’s track and field program. The average grant award is $700. As an additional dimension to the program, each recipient must also participate in a volunteer service program in their community.

The late, great Cedric Walker was an amazing man and a true gift to our sport and to coaches and athletes alike. He was our best friend, a Board member of our Foundation, founder of the Flower City Track Club, coach and mentor, National team manager and coach on just about every category of National Team. His energy was endless and unlimited. He knew everyone, could reach out to everyone, and got everything done before we thought about it.

Cedric left us in March of 2013, just days after our New Balance Indoor Nationals. The Development Grant was created in his memory, ensuring his legacy. Please take a moment to read Cedric Walker- Irreplaceable for a better understanding of the significance of this Development Grant.

The NSAF also awards the Tony Wells Team and Club Development Grants in mid-winter. Both of these are development grants and applications requesting travel funds to NSAF events will not be considered.
