17 schools/clubs awarded with 2017 Tony Wells Development Grants by NSAF
The National Scholastic Athletics Foundation is pleased to announce the recipients of the annual Tony Wells Team/Club Development Grant for 2017. Seventeen high school teams and track & field clubs (see below) will receive grants of various amounts for the development of their programs. These teams and clubs represent 11 different states, ranging from New York and Michigan, to Florida and Wyoming, and out to California. In the weeks ahead, we'll feature photos of these teams and clubs, and how they will benefit from their grant. The grant awards include a public service component, where the student-athletes of these clubs and teams are required to perform a community project in order to receive the full grant.
The grant was named after the late, legendary Colorado Flyers Head Coach, Tony Wells, who coached and served with vigor and honor the Colorado Flyers Track Club for more than 40 years. His remarkable success with the Flyers included developing athletes who have held national records in the 50y, 50m, 55m and 60m dashes, 50y and 55m hurdles and the shot put. An astonishing number have earned scholarships to college. Tony Wells died in July of 2012, but his legacy lives on and on. To learn more about Coach Wells, please visit the following links:
