20 T&F teams and clubs awarded NSAF Tony Wells Development Grants for 2019!
The National Scholastic Athletics Foundation is pleased to award this week our 2019 Tony Wells Team/Club Development Grants to 20 track and field teams and clubs from around the country. These teams and track & field clubs (listed below) will receive grants of various amounts for the development of their programs. These 20 teams and clubs hail from 15 different states, ranging from Idaho to Florida, from Oklahoma to South Dakota, and from Michigan to Rhode Island -- it's a very diverse group! The grant awards include a public service component, where the student-athletes of these clubs and teams are required to perform a community service project in order to receive the full grant. During the upcoming weeks, we'll feature photos of these teams and clubs, how they will benefit from their grant, and details of their service projects.
The grant was named after the late, legendary Colorado Flyers Head Coach, Tony Wells, who coached and served with passion and honor the Colorado Flyers Track Club for more than 40 years. His remarkable success with the Flyers included developing athletes who have held national records in the 50y, 50m, 55m and 60m dashes, 50y and 55m hurdles and the shot put. An astonishing number have earned scholarships to college. Coach Wells died in July of 2012, but his legacy lives on. To learn more about Coach Wells, please visit the following links:
