TERRE HAUTE, Ind., Aug. 18, 2021 – After our fantastic meet here last November, the National Scholastic Athletics Foundation (NSAF) is excited to partner with Cross Country Town USA to host the Nike XC Town Twilight, Presented by the Garrett Companies, set for Saturday, October 2, 2021 at LaVern Gibson Championship XC Course in Terre Haute, Indiana. The meet will serve as a Nike Midwest Pre-Regional Meet with great competition for teams preparing for that event, as well as a thrilling under-the-lights experience for all harriers from around the country.

Two years ago, the Nike Valley Twilight XC was the first meet held with portable lights at LaVern Gibson – hosted by Cross Country Town USA and Terre Haute South HS and sponsored by Nike and the Terre Haute Convention & Visitors Bureau. It was also a Nike Midwest Pre-Regional meet. Now, as was the case last fall for the XC Town Meet of Champions, The Garrett Companies, RunnerSpace.com and AthleticNET will also partner with the above-mentioned entities to create an outstanding event that will open the “twilight experience” for all.

“Cross Country Town USA, Vigo Country and Terre Haute South are extremely excited to partner with the NSAF, said Co-Meet Director Jeff Martin. “The Twilight meet is one of the most exciting meets we host here at LaVern Gibson. With the NSAF involvement along with the Garrett Companies sponsorship, we see this as an opportunity to grow this meet into one of the premiere regular season high school meets in the country.”

This highly anticipated meet includes a Midwest Race of Champions and U.S. Race of Champions for each gender, both Presented by Nike. The day is scheduled to begin at 4pm with Midwest and U.S. JV races, then continue with Midwest and U.S. Open races, the Championship races and the final awards ceremonies (expected to complete around 10pm; schedule subject to change). The Midwest events are open to schools within a 600-mile round-trip (300-mile radius) of the Indiana state border, as mandated by the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA), while the U.S. races are designated for athletes from around the nation.

“After such a great experience here last fall, we’re more than thrilled to be able to return for a truly unique mid-season event,” said the NSAF’s Kristi Rieger, Co-Meet Director. “This will provide some awesome competition for runners nation-wide, as well as a mid-season showdown for those from the Midwest states that will be going head-to-head in November.”

“The twilight aspect of the meet makes it extra special,” added NSAF Executive Director Jim Spier. “LaVern Gibson is uniquely suited for this and we’re so grateful to the Garrett Companies for the support they’re providing to be able to bring in these lights. Plus the support we have for this event from Jeff Martin, David Patterson and everyone here in Terre Haute is outstanding.”

Full details of the event, including meet schedule, registration details, COVID-19 guidelines and race-day details and much more, will be available within the next several days.
